Merriam Peak, in California's John Muir Wilderness, catches the dwindling twilight light as the first stars start to twinkle and the rising moon creates a soft pink gradient. I trekked up to this lake at 11,600 feet in the Royce Lakes Basin in the last week of June to catch the lake in the brief time during which it was half covered in snow and ice. This is a combination of two exposures to capture detail in the landscape, as well as the stars.
